Velvet isn't everyone's pick but personally i'm beginning to really like it. I think the key thing is to wear it with the right things. Like a velvet pair of burgundy shorts would go with some black tights, a white/cream top and a denim jacket; just one idea little. I've recently seen it creeping into different stores like topshop, river island and ark. Especially shorts and dresses (my fave). I think I will be saving up for some burgundy velvet shorts from topshop!
